Between the Canada-United States border, there is a beautiful place called Thousand Islands. You might know the name because of the extremely delicious salad dressing, but there is more to Thousand Islands than that. It’s an archipelago consisting of 1,864 islands stretching for about 50 miles. Some of the islands are smaller than others, ranging in size from 40 square miles all the way down to an island small enough for just one single house. In order to be considered an island in the Thousand Islands you must be above water lever all year-long, have at least 1 square foot of land, and have at least one living tree.
The largest island is Wolfe Island. It’s about 18 miles long and 5.5 miles at its widest point. This island houses approximately 1400 residents.
Some islands are larger than others and may have a few houses, while others may just have one house with your only neighbors across the water.
Most of these islands do have residents where people live full-time. You might be wondering how they leave their own private island.
There is a ferry service that is from the mainland. They can call the ferry service if they need help with transportation.
A lot of the islands are powered by hydro-electric power and their telephone service is carried using cables that are made for being underwater, and they go from island to island.
Some of these islands, about twenty total, make up the Thousand Islands National Park. This is actually Canada’s oldest national park east of the Rocky Mountains.
The national park offers campgrounds, walking trails, and a national heritage building.
Some of the islands house very large houses that look like castles. This is Boldt Castle which is located on Heart Island.
I guess you don’t need much of a yard when your surroundings are endless.
The amount of privacy that these islands offers is something most places just cannot offer.
Because this small island has a living tree and is at least 1 square foot big, it has earned the title of being an island.
This may be one of the most peaceful places on Earth. If you have the amount of land, you could easily have a small garden where you would never have to worry about your water source.
This house is located on Just Room Enough Island. As you can see, there isn’t really room for much else on this island. I hope the water level never begins to rise.

This looks like a wonderful place to visit. I don’t know if I could live on an island like this where the water is just a few feet away at all times, but it’s still incredible. I could definitely picture myself going here on vacation though, relaxing on the front porch of a house and just listening to the water around me.
